The City of Mission Viejo contracts with the Orange County Sheriff's Department for police services. According to the city, those services include patrol, general and special crime investigations, a Special Enforcement Team, five School Resource Officers, traffic enforcement, collision investigation, parking enforcement and a crime prevention unit.

Phone numbers. The 24-hour non-emergency dispatch line, used to request a deputy response or report a crime or suspicious activity, is 949-770-6011. Police Services at City Hall, 200 Civic Center, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and its general information line is 949-470-8433.

Crime map. The city points residents to CrimeMapping, an interactive tool built with TriTech Software Systems that lets residents search 15 types of crime by address, landmark or ZIP code, sign up for custom alerts and create reports. The city's crime statistics page says the content on CrimeMapping is a representation of crime and is not all-inclusive. Each agency can customize which crime types and crime codes it displays, and some agencies ask that sensitive crimes, such as sexual assault or crimes involving children, not be displayed. Each incident must be entered as a report or call for service before it can be uploaded, so some incidents do not appear right away. The page also says the Sheriff's Blotter is no longer used.

More. The city's police page also links to alert bulletins, Neighborhood Watch and crime prevention information.
