Senior Corps of Retirees and Trail Ambassadors: volunteer with Mission Viejo Police Services
Mission Viejo Police Services runs two volunteer programs, according to the city.
Senior Corps of Retirees. The Senior Corps of Retirees is a group of volunteer senior citizens who work with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which provides the city's law enforcement. The city says the program was developed and approved by the Mission Viejo City Council in 1989 and that the volunteers handle duties that let deputies spend most of their time on law enforcement. The listed duties are:
- Vacation home checks
- Removal of illegally posted signs from city property
- Crime prevention support
- Special event crowd and traffic control
- City Hall second floor reception
- Police Services clerical support
- Mail delivery between City Hall and outlying facilities
- Emergency preparedness training
For more information, contact Police Services at 949-470-8433 or crimeprevention@cityofmissionviejo.org. The office is on the second floor of Mission Viejo City Hall.
Trail Ambassador Program. Volunteers patrol the trails in Mission Viejo on e-bikes and promote trail rules and safe bike riding. The city's Volunteer Opportunities page describes the program, and it points interested residents to the Police Services contacts.
