Volunteer at the Mission Viejo Library: teen service hours and adult roles
The Mission Viejo Library and Cultural Arts department takes volunteers of several ages. Volunteer Coordinator Sandy Brimer handles questions at 949-470-8488 or libvolunteers@cityofmissionviejo.org.
Teens in grades 6 to 12. Two options need no commute to a desk:
- The Teen Voice Blog lets students earn community service credit from home. Each post earns 1 hour, and a post about a library or city event the student took part in earns two hours. Sign-ups are ongoing, and students apply with an application form.
- The Teen Volunteer Club is a drop-in program with no application, registration or training. It meets from 6 to 8 pm on the fourth Thursday of the month, January through October.
High school students can also look into the library's Teen Advisory Board, which plans library programs and earns service hours. Teens age 15 and older can volunteer as a Library and Cultural Arts Event Assistant or a Library Technology Specialist by filling out the Volunteer Interest Form for more information and an application.
Adults 18 and older. Roles include Friends Amazon Associate, Friends Bookstore Associate, Friends Bookstore Sorter, Genealogy, Homework Help, Library and Cultural Arts Event Assistant, Library Technology Specialist and Passport Acceptance Office. The library says adult openings are few and far between, so it asks interested adults to fill out the Volunteer Interest Form to be notified when something opens.
The library does not accept court-ordered volunteers.
